I'm Kathy Covington — founder of Mantra Pilates, and the studio owner who had to learn every bit of this the hard way before I ever taught a word of it.
In 2012, I opened my first Pilates studio in Sarasota, Florida — armed with an MBA in Finance & Entrepreneurship and a deep love for movement. The degree taught me business. The studio taught me everything the degree left out.
Over the next fourteen years, I grew Mantra Pilates into a multi-location brand across Florida and California. I learned — the hard and expensive way — what it actually takes to hire instructors worth keeping, build a membership that stays, run financials that make sense, and grow without losing yourself in the process.
For a long stretch of that, I wasn't really the owner of my studio. I was the studio. If I was on the floor, we had a great day. If I stepped back, everything wobbled. I'd built myself the busiest job I'd ever had and called it a business.
The fix was never working harder. I was already maxed out on that.
It was rebuilding the studio from the ground up — one deliberate system at a time — until it could finally stand without me holding it up. That rebuild became a framework. The framework became the Vital A's Studio System.
Now I teach that system to other studio owners: the manual I wish someone had handed me on day one.
If it can't run a week without you in the room, you don't own a business yet — you own a job you gave yourself. The entire point of the work is to change that.
I tried to out-work the problem for years. It never closed the gap. Deliberately built pillars did what hustle never could — and gave me my life back.
No fluff, no generic guru playbook. Just what actually works inside a real studio — learned the slow, expensive way, so you don't have to repeat my mistakes.
"I built the business I wish I'd had a manual for."
Most studio owners are brilliant teachers and accidental CEOs. I was one of them. The Vital A's System is the manual I'd hand my younger self — and now hand to studio owners ready to step into the CEO seat.
